How It Went.

It rained during our patronal fiesta.

This single phenomenon discouraged a lot of people from coming. I cried (drama, I know. XD) when I heard that he cannot come because of it. Miserable, eh?

An hour and a good bath later, I realized that maybe it happened because it was meant to. It made me realize that while I was able to go home and enjoy the holidays with my family, I cannot have everything–especially not this weather’s favor.

Anyway, a lot of people still came. And he made me realize that having each other is already something to be really happy about.

I will be posting photos later.

Selfish me.

The people at home are teasing me. They said I’ve become more selfish. Hahaha!

What they said was entirely true. I was and still am selfish. I work too hard. I seldom spend time with them. I am even more stingy.

Father: “Ikaw, kung i-text ka Monday, Friday ka pa ga-reply.” Awts.
Mother: “Abi pagturog don, indi sagay pulaw. Ikaw lang da mamanggaranon eh.”
Brother: “Te, indi mo gid ko pagtaw-an ka dang ginakaon mo?”
Sister: “Binli man ya ayam.”

Translation:

Amay: Text back ASAP, you!
Iloy: Sleep now, pay later.
Utod nga lalaki: Im hungry too, you know.
Utod nga babaye: Arf!

Whew. That was hard. Hahah!
But honestly, yes. I am even more selfish that I’ve lost more weight from too much work. That’s why they are pressuring me to go home for the holidays and fatten up. (Execution date is near, siguro.)

But, as pissed as they are with how delicately I am handling myself, I am so glad to be able to go home. XD

Love writing.

I never thought I’d find myself writing professionally.

More often than not, I see a lot of errors in what I write. Sometimes, its within the data given to me. I misspell words or forget to include important contact details.

On certain occasions, I would find grammar mistakes after reading my work. I would confuse the purposes of dashes and hyphen and so on. I’m lucky if I detect them. If I can’t, online softwares or my boss will. Ouch.

Because of this, I fail to fully appreciate my outputs. I can see more faults than facts. More errors than essence. (Does this makes me a good copy editor then? XD)

But recently, I stumbled upon a blog (which URL and name escaped me) containing something like this: “Ten reasons to appreciate the writer in you.” I read until the bottom, but what caught my eye was the number 1 reason: Write, write, write. Forget about editing.

Then it hit me. I wasn’t there to edit. I was there to write. Writing is more challenging than editing. It is the reason millions of people are online/ reading print media. I was supposed to make a goldmine out of a single crap and sell it to a lot of people. This is the part where I should be free. I should be the one to add as many marshmallows and rainbows to my creation.

So I began doing just that. I wrote and wrote, and didn’t mind the technicalities for a while. But, I never forgot about editing. The crap will stay as such when it’s not polished. After writing, I did my best at editing. This time around, I am not as anxious.

I still have a few misspelled words, here and there. I still forget to include logos and some contact details. But this time around, I am happier with my work. It has more facts, more essence, more heart. Write like it’s your last. :)

Speeches and why some people do not listen to them.

People love compliments.

This is a known fact. But there are just some who ache for them. It’s like every listener is required to drop everything he or she is doing and listen to him speak.

I experienced this and boy, even though he was affiliated with a former client, am I glad I did not lie.

He was an important officer for a Russian Embassy. I was in-charge of the program flow for an event here in Cebu. I was all over the place, all the while attending to their needs. (Although it was not one of my tasks, I admit I can be pretty ‘epal’ or if I put it in a more understandable term, ‘hospitable’. LOL)

We were introduced earlier and I kept filling him in about the details of the program. He will be speaking in behalf of the Embassy and the Russian Federation.

After an hour and 30 minutes, we saw each other in one of the hallways of the Cultural Center of Cebu. He looked very pleasant, came up to me and excitedly asked if I heard him speak and how would I assess it.

I apologized for not having done so and told him I was busy. He looked crestfallen, took it badly and turned his back on me.

Whaa–. Hello, I’m no DC Comics character. I was saddened that I did not have even a moment to listen, but after a while, I realized I did the right thing. If I made time for him, the other parts of the program may not have pushed through. He is (in a way) a client but as the in-charge of the program, I also have other tasks to do.

It saddens me that not a lot of people can understand the ‘other things that happen’ in a short span of time. It is kind of selfish (I know, I am one too, but not in this case).

Oh well. Everyone is not an audience of just someone, I guess. Even if you’re really, really important wherever you came from.

Videoke sessions with people who used to be strangers.

I miss these people.

This videoke session happened over four months ago, and I am wondering if it will happen again. Some of them may not be the people whom I have known for more than a year, but it seemed that there is instant friendship between us. One that has a chance of lasting forever.

:)Hope we can have one of these again.

Suddenly it was irritating.

Other than having fun looking at their pathetic-ness, I do not like being around inebriated people.

During one occasion, some friends and I went to a resort for an early Christmas treat. It was a planned getaway (maybe another reason some things went haywire) and some of us arrived late. Nevertheless, I never thought that the night would be filled with surprises.

Surprise No. 1: There were two bottles of Mojitos. Earlier, we agreed on drinking but Jen and I never expected Mojitos. We thought we would only be downing T-Ices.

Surprise No. 2: There were too many food than we expected. Jen and I brought 2 big plastic bags of chips and bread for the overnight, but the others brought many drinks and 2 kilos of pork for grilling. There were only seven of us. Two were on diet. One left early for an unexpected activity and said she will return before 12.

Surprise No. 3: We cannot eat all the food. Hahaha!

Surprise No. 4: Four other people arrived. Though we do not know three of them as well as the other one, they turned out OK. None of them annoyed us as much as one from our side did. Haha!

Surprise No. 5: One from our side got really drunk. Again.

I hate being around drunk people. And I hate the fact that I have to attend to them. And I hate it that I have a choice not to attend to them. Call me crazy, I just don’t want to see any dead body floating in the shores of Cebu the following day.

Drunk people irritate me. Yes, they say sensible things but THEY JUST CAN’T STOP TALKING. I look at their pathetic selves and I want to puke the _% alcohol that I consumed on their laps.

This is another reason why I don’t get totally drunk. I have gone beyond tipsy but never beyond that. I do not want to cause inconvenience to others. Why was alcohol invented anyway? Lol.

There is something else I like very much about being around drunk people. They are, undoubtedly, honest. The kind of honesty that you don’t see when they were still, um, human. Hehe. I heard a lot of truths that night. Some made my ears big, but some just made the hairs on my body stand.

Cheers to drunk people! SLEEP NOW YOU JERKS.

PR: San Remigio Properties welcomes Atlantis

Come December 2011, San Remigio Properties will add another feather in its cap with the rise of Atlantis.

“On the 18th, we are welcoming a new baby in the San Remigio Properties family—Atlantis”, shared Mr. Mark Ynoc, General Manager of San Remigio Beach Club.

Atlantis is perfect for banquets and other intimate functions mainly because of its 120 pax seating capacity. Only nine feet away from the beach, guests will be delighted at the spectacular view of the beachfront.

Mr. Ynoc disclosed that they got the name “Atlantis” from Plato’s famed dialogues Timaeus and Critias.
Apparently, Atlantis is a utopia created by Poseidon, the Greek god of the seas. Atlantis became the center of civilization because of the great knowledge of the Atlanteans in many areas such as the sciences, technology and arts. On the day that they decided to extend their kingdom, it was said that the skies turned black and the waters swilled until the whole Atlantis is no more.

“Behind the story is a great kingdom which fits the kind of image that we want for our Atlantis: elegance, power and a great sense of tranquility”.

The site of the new Atlantis structure was originally San Remigio Beach Club’s game room. “We want to make room for Atlantis without compromising the usual enjoyment of our beloved guests here at the resort.”
Aside from the panoramic view of the resort during lunch meetings and small parties, the Atlantis has a small snack bar readily available by request.

“We want the Atlantis to cater to any type of guest or event. We want this newest addition to our family to become the beacon of elegance, power and tranquility which the legendary Atlantis was famous for”, concludes Mr. Ynoc.
