Speeches and why some people do not listen to them.

People love compliments.

This is a known fact. But there are just some who ache for them. It’s like every listener is required to drop everything he or she is doing and listen to him speak.

I experienced this and boy, even though he was affiliated with a former client, am I glad I did not lie.

He was an important officer for a Russian Embassy. I was in-charge of the program flow for an event here in Cebu. I was all over the place, all the while attending to their needs. (Although it was not one of my tasks, I admit I can be pretty ‘epal’ or if I put it in a more understandable term, ‘hospitable’. LOL)

We were introduced earlier and I kept filling him in about the details of the program. He will be speaking in behalf of the Embassy and the Russian Federation.

After an hour and 30 minutes, we saw each other in one of the hallways of the Cultural Center of Cebu. He looked very pleasant, came up to me and excitedly asked if I heard him speak and how would I assess it.

I apologized for not having done so and told him I was busy. He looked crestfallen, took it badly and turned his back on me.

Whaa–. Hello, I’m no DC Comics character. I was saddened that I did not have even a moment to listen, but after a while, I realized I did the right thing. If I made time for him, the other parts of the program may not have pushed through. He is (in a way) a client but as the in-charge of the program, I also have other tasks to do.

It saddens me that not a lot of people can understand the ‘other things that happen’ in a short span of time. It is kind of selfish (I know, I am one too, but not in this case).

Oh well. Everyone is not an audience of just someone, I guess. Even if you’re really, really important wherever you came from.

The Simala Trip

Simala, Sibonga, Cebu. It’s been a month since I’ve been there but the memories this place brought seems like the trip was only made yesterday.

It’s Yan’s friend, Eric’s, birthday. I did not know until the day of the trip. Funny because I almost did not want to go. For one, I am running out of money. Two, I will be leaving Jennie alone again. But, I somehow feel I had to.

And everything was worth it. Eric paid for the bus and van trips, breakfast and lunch. “Mayo gani kamo lang nagkadto, kung daamo pa gid, maputo ko. Hahaha!”

Belated Happy Birthday, ric! :D

The church in Simala

The interiors of the church/museum. There are more or less 100 statues inside and outside of the church.

The altar. We all prayed and made wishes. When we got tired of roaming around, we heard mass. By the time we got out, we were starving.

The gigantic statue of Virgin Mary. One of the reasons this place is famous.

Top model agent, DJ become GT evangelists

gtgtgtgtgt - Copy

Two Cebu-based personalities – a top model agent and a well-known FM disc jockey – have not only become users of GT Cosmetics products, they have turned into evangelists of sorts.

Top model agent and events organizer Danny Booc of Ozar Models Philippines was introduced to GT while shopping in a popular mall. A booth dedicated to GT products was giving away samples. Booc, discriminating with what he uses on his sensitive skin, was persuaded by the promo staff to try GT’s Carrot Soap and Moisturizing Cream.

After initial use, Booc was impressed. He also received positive feedback from his matron friends who were on a constant look-out for beauty panaceas. They saw the positive result on Danny’s fairer and smoother skin. Today, Booc swears by GT. Booc’s resolution to use GT is echoed by Jessica Cortes, mother of Chassy Cortes of Y101.

A disc jockey of Y101 and a sought after emcee for various events in Cebu, Chassy Cortes first received samples and began using GT products. Finding these effective, Chassy gave her mother Jessica a sampler who in turn saw improvements on her skin tone.

She, too, believes it’s not important to stick to imported brands. Booc and Cortes now believe that local company like GT is best positioned to study the needs of the local market and it knows what is best for the Filipino skin.

With the recent news of recall of many foreign-made cosmetic products from the local market has turned the attention of many beauty-seekers to turn to Philippine-made products instead.

GT Cosmetics Manufacturing is based in Liloan town, Cebu.

back again

Weee!!

My friend Jen and I are back again here in the Queen City of the South. This time around, for employment purposes. Hahaha. We haven’t started yet so the days go by so slooow. But we are excited about wandering around and getting lost. Hahahaha.

I haven’t visited my blog for weeks already. I was half afraid that it would be infested with spams. Or worse, deactivated. Thankfully, it was still kicking. Hehe. I miss blogging! :D

bye, cebu! :)

This might be my last post in the building and city i have learned to love within two months.
Cebu is wonderful. The people are a nice, fun-loving albeit weird in some ways.
There are a lot of fun places to explore everyday! Be it a mall, a landmark or a street with no lights.
I am not generous with “Goodbyes” because I know, I will be coming back. :)
And so I was able to say, “Naa me sa Cebu!! “

Tomorrow, i will leave for the City of Love.

Of collecting brochures and other unnecessary objects

a friend has a weird habit of getting too much napkins from the dispenser even when he does not need them

Being new to a place certainly gives you the right to either be incredibly smart or stupid. It is alright to act like you have never been there before or you have not done it when you first went there.

I’m not talking about something green. I’m talking about collecting unnecessarily quaint or sometimes useful objects for my journal. You see, I am keeping a journal but instead of writing daily entries, I would stick candy wrappers, photos, boat tickets, purchase receipts, coffee cup logos, informal letters, table napkins, price tags and other oddities that should have found its way to the trash can by now had they not met me.

My friend found this interesting and so she started doing the same thing. So, off we went and started our weird collection that should probably tell a lot of interesting stories when we will see them again at 60.

Invariably, I would pick up a few oddities in a new place. If the place is not as quaint as I found it, I would collect brochures. I have brochures from banks, hotels, restaurants, malls, stores, and even from comfort rooms (or perhaps it was left by someone who had lots of them, but who cares? It’s still a brochure).

Collecting brochures may not be as vintage as collecting stamps but stamps do not carry the memories that brochures and other oddities do on the day you picked them. Stamps show tepid butterflies and people you barely knew. But brochures and other oddities remind you of that:

• overpriced meal or dress (P5++? That’s corruption already!)
• boat fare promos that happen only for three hours (Weesam, yeyy!)
• letters that tell you the teacher looks like a frog (pass to the person sitting next to you)
• weird candy you might never get the chance to taste again
• photos of you when you were too anemic for the white background
• coffee cup logos on napkins (because you brought the brand and not the coffee, be honest)

Maybe when I’m 60 and my house burns down, the firemen will have a hard time dousing the fire. But who cares? Stamps don’t save you from fire either. LOL.

Coffee for our Thoughts

I’m not a coffee person. Nor does coffee help my upper eyelid stay up late at night.

But sometimes, the smell of fresh coffee beans brewing finds its way on my nostrils and send messages to my brain that my tummy is “gagging” for it—badly.

So when the ‘coffee urges’ destroys my line of thoughts, I know it’s time to visit a coffee shop once again. My three friends and I would usually find ourselves in either three of the coffee shops in Ayala Center: Starbucks Coffee, The Coffee Bean and Bo’s Coffee Club.

Of the three, I liked Starbucks the most. I cannot say it must be because of the Frappucinos because I am not “coffee-nated” enough to distinguish one from the other. But I would like to think that Bo’s is one of my least favorites. When left cold, their Frappes are near insipid.

Starbucks and Coffee Bean taste almost the same. However, I prefer Starbucks because I think their ice-blended Frappes have richer taste and aroma. Also, I enjoy the decor on the wall as well as the comfortable cushions. I love Coffee Bean’s Lattés and I agree with my friend when she said that the place has better ambiance for business meetings and hardbound.

Today, as we are writing our journals, we are sipping Coffee Bean in four different flavors: Vanilla Latté, Mocha Latté, African Sunrise and Chai. Somehow I feel it helps stimulate thinking. Thoughts flow easily and we found ourselves the last group to leave the shop.

I’m not a coffee person. Nor does coffee help my upper eyelid stay up late at night. But the Frappes do. Not because they are coffee-based, but because I am writing about them. 

blame it on the chibog

We aimed for the fireworks, but we got the Ferris wheels instead.

Not that we undermined the big amusement ride, but what we initially wanted to see were the Guiness-aimed-P128, 000 fireworks prepared by the Cebu City government for the South Road Project (SRP) Launch.

But it’s the puso’s (hanging rice) fault. Had we not painfully searched for the small, sinful mound of puso, we could have made it in time for the fireworks display. With the puso is its other accomplices, the siomai and lechon manok sans the sauce.

Going back to my (and my friends, too) lamentations, we stepped out of our ride only to see groups of people exiting the venue. Phew! Sayang. We decided to go and have a look inside. Maybe the rats left some cheese.

With the Yael Yuzon of Spongecola serenading the crowd behind us, we lined up for the scarier ferris wheel. Some of us initially declined because the ferris wheel revolves very fast and the boys wanted all of us to queue for it! “At least we’ve accomplished something”, said one of my companions.

Most unfortunately, we were seated with a crazy, hyperactive friend. We kept on shouting as he kept on swinging the cart we were caged in. He kept on laughing like madman, with much fervor—I was quite sure he hadn’t any dinner that night yet.

When our rounds were finally over (much to our crazy friend’s disappointment, of course), I had jelly for legs. The boys said we should also ride the other ferris wheel (there were two) so he could scare our other girl friends. They declined his offer as seat companion, by the way.

After two and a half hours of walking around, eating peanuts, taking jumpshots, riding ferris wheels and clowning around, we decided we were hungry. So, at 3AM in one of our friends’house, we feasted on the puso, siomai and lechon manok while blaming them for not having seen the fireworks.

The ride was worth it though, we got good photos.
