somebody to stalk

I have a new crush! [cue ear-splitting shriek]

And he’s younger than me (one? two years?)
And I haven’t met him before.
And we’re friends on Facebook.
And he looks a bit like Johnny Depp. :3
And when I showed some of his photos to my friend, Jennie, she immediately declared having a crush on him too. Waaah.

To my new crush:

Be very afraid, bwahaha! Just kidding. Just want to let you know that I will be stalking you. :))

Nestle: Kasambuhay, Habambuhay

Through a friend of a friend of a friend, Jennie discovered (and bugged me endlessly) to download these wonderful videos below.

Just a brief: These are released by Nestle Philippines as part of their 100 years of existence and service here in the country. Each of these commercials tell a short (and value-laden) story about life, the Filipino way–aside from giving emphasis to the importance of nutrition and family.

I am absolutely in love with the funny lines and the wonderful cinematography and scoring. :)

AMIGO

Love the tagline. :)

A new film about the Philippines and being Filipino is about to be released next month, Amigo.

This film stars Joel Torre, Ronnie Lazaro and Rio Locsin among others. Directed by Academy Award-winning John Sayles, this is expected to be one of the most touching and “passionate” films ever made by foreigners about the Philippines. For this, I would like to thank Sayles. Yey!

It is a bit sad though, that the government and the viewing public does not show much support to historical films, considering that it is all about being nationalistic. I remember Neil Gaiman’s refusal to inculcate Filipino mythology in his writings and illustrative ideas, saying that being Pinoy, we should be the ones to write our own stories. He is right.

Back to the movie, here is a link. Watch and enjoy! :) Credits to Kristian Peace Braquis for sharing this. :)

Philippines celebrates World Social Media Day with launch of first Tatt Awards

Philippines celebrates World Social Media Day with launch of first Tatt Awards

There’s no stopping the increasing pervasiveness of social media in the Philippines. With over 25-Million internet users—and counting, one study even shows that 95% of online Pinoys actively tweet, Facebook, plurk and blog, giving more credence to the Philippines being called the Social Networking capital of the world.

Hence, the first Tatt Awards was launched to give due recognition to the growing power and influence of this medium and to people who have used the digital space to inspire, spur change and make a difference.

Powered by Globe Tattoo, the Tatt Awards were launched at the posh Opus Club in Resorts World Manila to coincide with the 2nd annual Social Media Day.

“Tattoo is about making your mark and your own personal definition of greatness. The Tatt Awards is our venue to recognize those individuals that through their passion and individuality have created a space that is truly theirs, but sincerely shared with others,” said Dong Ronquillo, Head of Nomadic Broadband Business of Globe Telecom.

The Tatt Awards has ten categories: The One, the most influential trendsetter that shaped opinion, moved people and prompted action; Ballbreaker, a blogger or a Twitter user who started a debate, sparked conversations or a revolution of opinions with just one hard-hitting post; Stylisimo, a person that not only reviewed fashion but also set a trend one that everyone followed; Indie Rocker, a musical band or indie artist who fought hard to claim their space in the hearts of the Filipino audience via webtime; Wordslayer, a blogger whose mastery of words showed wit, humor and grit to the Philippine blogosphere; Artiste, an inspiring person whose fiery passion for creating visual art through original graphic design, animation or photography has caught fire in the Philippine online art scene; Tech Junkie, a blogger, podcaster or Twitter user who shares access to the latest in trends and the fast pace world of e-knowledge; #Thought-Mover, a Twitter user who sparked a fire in the Philippine Twittersphere with one unique hashtag; Video Slinger, an individual or group who shook the Pinoy web space with though-provoking or entertaining video; and The Advocate, a person or a group of individuals who worked to improve the state of a societal cause in the Philippines through social media. Winners will receive a whopping P100,000 in cash and premium broadband products from Tattoo.

Winners are decided by public voting and a panel of judges christened The Tatt Council. Members of The Tatt Council include Dong Ronquillo; award-winning journalist Maria Ressa; Rock Ed Philippines founder Gang Badoy; popular lifestyle blogger and entrepreneur Cecile Zamora-Van Straten; tech blogger and Tattoo ambassador Rico Mossesgeld; director and video blogger Kring Elenzano; Radio DJ Chico Garcia and Hans Roxas-Chua, President of the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP).

Online nominations will run until July 14, 2011 via the Tattoo portal www.tattoo.globe.com.ph/tattawards. Finalists will be announced on August 10, at which point the online voting will begin and run until August 24. The Tatt Awards Night will be on August 27.

looking like Tumblr

Upside-down, the Facebook logo looks just like any other letter for a kindergarten.

Facebook crashed.

It said something about a site problem. Today, of all days. Haaay.. Thankfully, I have done my job of posting the invites to the National Nutrition Council-7′s Photo Competition. I also learned to apply one of my favorite philosophies: deriving good out of something bad. Facebook crashing will mean lessening my addiction towards the world’s top social networking site. This further means that I will have more time to do more important stuff.

Like going back to my first love, writing. :)

one day, my phone just died

I lost my phone. Not to a thief or to Mother Nature; it simply died. Not that I need to blog about it. Hihi

It’s funny because just a few days ago, we were discussing in class the possibility of living ‘normally’ without a phone. Of course and as expected, I answered Yes. Because I really can. But now that my phone is gone, I realized what it means to lose something which one depends on as an alarm clock, calendar, a way of communicating simple tasks and getting updates from other people. I also lost some of the numbers, which ‘passed away’ along with my phone memory.

I felt like I went back to the Jurassic period. I had to do my calendar manually (manila paper plus marker). I had to ask others to wake me up if I overslept (good thing my classes do not begin until 10 AM). Lastly, my friends were good enough to own dual sim phones. I feel a bit parasitic, but I guess I have no choice until I get a new phone.

I miss my phone. In the morning when I wake up, I would always look on my bedside table to see if it was there like before. On some nights, I would dream that it was perfectly OK or that I have discovered a way to fix it. But I guess some things never return once you lose them.

On the brighter side, I began to develop the habit of walking over to my friends’ rooms if I need something. I began to wait patiently for them to come if we need to meet someplace. I also learned to use my memory to remember dates and events for school. These are seemingly trivial things but I remember that I only did them when I have no load or I left my phone somewhere.

When I started getting used to it, I sometimes forget that my phone died. It’s been three weeks yet I am starting to live without it. These days, I only miss it when I am alone in long jeepney rides and I am in dire need of plastering earphones in my ears and listen to the vitamins of the soul—music.

a little LOL won’t hurt

Even though I am not much of a Facebook-er these days, when I get bored, my fingers fly to the said social networking site. After all, it wouldn’t hurt to do some online sightseeing.

One of the posts there made me laugh hard. For someone who shares the free Wi-Fi with a lot of other girls on the second floor lobby, I really had a hard time containing my snigger. When I showed it to my friends, they lost their wits laughing as well.

“A girl in love, no matter how age she is in, says:

18: give me a HANDSOME MAN.
21: give me the BEST MAN.
25: give me a GOOD MAN.
30: give me a MAN.
40: wala pa MAN?
50: diin na MAN?
60: ano ni MAN?
70: Lord, ngaa MAN?
80: wala na gid MAN?
90: ay, kaluoy MAN.
100: ti MAN.”

We need THIS a lot these days. Especially when the weather is cold. Especially when you’re deemed to be crazy. Especially when you’re in your senior year at UP, doing thesis. :))
